Blog from Africa Part IV –Ng’ombe open community school (ZOCS)

This week our colleague Anouk pays a working visit to our projects in Africa. This is her blog:

''Early in the morning we are picked up to go to the airport. We leave a rainy Johannesburg for Zambia. At the airport we meet Freda, our supervisor. She monitors the projects in Zambia for Orange Babies. Once we have landed, we drive directly into the compounds of Ng’ombe, in the direction of the ZOCS (Zambia Open Community Schools). The warmth, the colours, the red sand and the bumpy roads… This really feels like Africa!

In the middle of the community we find a small school where children are taught in shifts. The teachers introduce themselves to us and they show us around the classrooms where we treat the children to some sweets. We are welcomed with lots of dance and music. I can tell the children here are very happy to be able to go to school and receive a meal. It’s great to see those happy faces!''
